Why the watermarks? Print E-mail

natural history photographyI have been asked several times why the pictures that I ("Paul W") attach to my posts here at Wildlife Thailand are "spoilt" by a watermark that says "envirosea".

Its simply because I have decided to attempt to use my large collection of photographs of Thailand's natural places, fauna and flora to help in supporting conservation of those places and animals that I like to photograph. I do this using a website called EnviroSEA.com.

EnviroSEA's aim is to utilize my personal photography in a sustainable manner. To help give back for anyway my presence in the forest takes away from the natural order.

For years now many of my pictures have been made available to the media and publishing industry through select photographic agencies such as Getty, NHPA, Alamy and SeaPics. I have made a conscious decision to offer the contents of my whole photographic collection through the EnviroSEA site in order to raise more money. This way I get to donate the whole amount rather than what is left after the photographic agencies have taken their large fees. This money is being donated, with all proceeds (yes, 100%! of proceeds - not just "profits") going to non-profit organizations and research projects working on the conservation and protection of Thailand's forests and forest inhabitants.

The watermark is not intended to take away from your enjoyment, its to remove the possibility of the pictures being used for commercial means by unscrupulous businesses that don't wish to donate. In a way I attempting to enforce "profit sharing" on them. That is why you see the envirosea watermark on my photographs.
