A Crab-eating Mongoose (Herpestes urva) in Kaeng Krachan National Park, Thailand. After an uneventful Friday I had taken up a spot at the end of the day in the southern part of Kaeng Krachan, hoping (beyond reason!) to catch a glimpse of a banteng. After falling asleep several times, as it had been a day of rain and poor light, I awoke to see a crab eating mongoose in plain site in front of me. It stayed for around 2 minutes before being scared away by a passing car engine sound. That's one of the beauties of trying to see wildlife in a rainforest, just when you have given up hope - something reinstates your belief!
